1st Mother's Day

Today was my first Mother's Day!!! I could not have asked for a better Mother's Day present than my sweet little Joaquin!!!!!!!! He is a joy in my life, more than he will ever understand.

Happy Mother's Day to my mom!! I wouldn't have known how to be a mom without you! You make motherhood way more enjoyable for me by the example that you give daily as a mom!!!!

Happy Mother's Day Maria Elena!!!! Thanks for all the love you have given our family!!!!!!

Favorite time of day

Joaquin's favorite time of day is bath time. This robe and slippers is one of the things that Carlos really wanted from the registry!!! He wears it sometimes after his bath and smiles for me on the couch for a little while. He is my sweet little smiley boy!!!!

Smiling and singing!

Joaquin smiles a lot when you talk to him! He also likes to make a lot of noise with his mouth open! All of this makes him really tired and so before his last feeding, he likes to take a little nap with Papa. Usually, Carlos can't resist a little shut eye also.

6 weeks old

We were a little late on the 1 month picture, so here is the 6 week picture with the teddy bear. Joaquin is growing a lot and changing a lot. He is a sweet little boy!

Gardening with Papa!

Carlos decided that he would start a vegetable garden! Our sweet next door neighbor, who has been a farmer his whole like, has been giving Carlos lots of good tips!! He planted tomatoes, cucumbers, green peppers and yellow peppers. Joaquin isn't quite sure if he likes the stroller yet, but he did enjoy watching Papa garden!!! He loves watching his papa!

Long Grass

Carlos and I have been busy lately....and the yard has become a jungle!! Thankfully, recently, we were able to mow the yard and the dogs' yard!!! It looks a lot better now and we can actually see the dogs when we look outside! :)

Bread

This post is dedicated to my spiritual mentor and my bread making mentor Eva Ekbom!!! 2 years ago when the Ekbom family graciously allowed Carlos and I to live with them in our transition month between medical school and residency, Eva showed me a new way to make amazing bread!!! It is whole grain! She grinds her own grain and then makes the bread from scratch. The bread is really good and really good for you!!!! So...for 2 years, I have been very excited about starting this same process. For my 'new mother's' present, Carlos got me the bread mixer that works for this type of bread making. And, we found a menoite pantry that grinds the fresh grain for you. So.....the process has finally begun. So far I have made 12 loaves of yummy, whole wheat and 7 grain bread! Thanks so much Eva for the inspiration and thanks Carlos for the awesome gift!!!!

We are so honored that Joaquin is named after such an amazing man!! The man in the middle is Carlos's grandfather (Carlos's dad's dad). He was an awesome man of God, a great family man and lived a great life. We are so glad that little Joaquin has such an amazing namesake!!

Carlos's mom shared these pictures with me from when Carlos was 1 month old. I was blown about by how much Joaquin looks like Carlos!! I love it!!!!

GiGi Joan and Papa Louie sent Joaquin this sweet little Chick. It is actually bigger then Joaquin right now :) And it is very soft. Thanks Gigi Joan and Papa Louie...we love it!!!!

La Familia

We have had a lot of help with our little monkey!! My mom came for 2 weeks...my dad visited for a weekend, Carlos's mom came for 2 weeks and then his dad, sister and grandmother came for Easter. Joaquin got a lot of good time with his Gram, Pops, Abuela, Visabuela, abuelo and tia!!! We are so thankful for all the people that love and care for Joaquin! He loves his family!!

Carlos and Joaquin love to hang out on the couch together and watch March Madness.

Sleeping a little bit in between feeding!!
Pops came to visit and introduced Joaquin to Starbucks....looking but no drinking yet.
Kim and Brax have taken a new picture each month with the bear from Gram and Pops....so we decided to continue to tradition. Our bear is smaller.....but it still works! :) This is Joaquin at 2 weeks old.

Mama' and Papa'

We are overwhelmed and excited with the responsibility of being new parents. We want so badly for this little one to fall in love with Jesus!! Please pray with us that God uses us in his life daily to teach him how much the Lord loves him!! Please pray that Carlos and I are faithful in our relationship with the Lord. We truly appreciate already the outpouring of prayer that we, as a family, have gotten!!!
We have had such a great first week with our sweet Joaquin (which is pronounced 'Wa-keen'!) He is a miracle child and a gift from the Lord. We chose his name for 2 reasons. First, it is Carlos's Grandfather's name. Second, it means, God will establish. God really has established Joaquin in our life as a huge show of God's love. We are overwhelmed!!!!! Praise Him. Things are going well....sleep is scarce, but Joaquin is eating well and sleeping some. He is healthy and he is doing great.
He absolutely loves to use his arms for everything. We have to swaddle him to feed him, and it never fails that his arms start to work their way up to his face. He must have spent a lot of time like that in the womb!!!

He also has been very alert! He has Carlos's big brown eyes, which I think are so adorable (I'm a little bias!!)
